A Man of the Cross

A Man of the Cross:

“Give me a man of God–one man,

Whose faith is master of his mind,

And I will right all wrongs

And bless the name of all mankind.

“Give me a man of God–one man,

Whose tongue is touched with heaven’s fire,

And I will flame the darkest hearts

With high resolve and clean desire.

“Give me a man of God–one man,

One mighty prophet of the Lord,

And I will give you peace on earth,

Bought with a prayer and not a sword.

“Give me a man of God–one man,

True to the vision that he sees,

And I will build your broken shrines

And bring the nation to their knees.”

-George Liddell

“The Lord has sought out for Himself a man after his own heart.” (1 Sam. 13:14).

“I looked, and behold, there was no man…” (Jer. 4:25).

“Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see… if you can find a man… that executes judgment, that seeks the truth, and I will pardon it.” (Jer. 5:1)

“I searched for a man …who should stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, but I found no one.” (Ez. 22:30).

Jesus Christ is the quintessential “man of God” who follows after God’s own heart, who executes justice, embodies truth, and provides pardon. He stood in the gap on behalf of us so that His punishment might bring us peace.

God continues to look for Christ-reflecting men to lead His people.  He honors those with humble hearts who tremble at His word, because they model the way of the Cross.
